Musings…

Self improvement and walking in step with others who seek growth is a Journey. And it can be thoroughly rewarding and enjoyable! Establishing a healthy relationship with our environment is enriching for both, us and the environment. Being alive to impacts of our actions and non-actions is essential in today’s times. We all need to embrace the various principles that can guide us, conceptually and practically. We need to evolve safe practices, safe for us and our environment. We need to grow, contribute to others’ growth, and sensitively interact with our environment.

At “EKO”
…

We simply follow the various principles that are related to outdoor education / experiential earning, and outdoor operations. There are many factors and forces that affect the eventual ‘effect’ of any initiative or programme. We believe in understanding the ‘big picture’ and then doing our best to contribute to helping realise that picture. Working closely with organisations, understanding long term dimensions and appropriately designing intervention-experiences has seen us conduct some highly impactful outbound experiential learning based programmes.

Mission…

EKO is driven by the mission of making the outdoors a meaningful and enjoyable medium while maintaining a healthy interaction and relation with the natural and socio-cultural environments that are a part of the Indian ethos. This mission manifests in the ‘safe practices’ that we adopt in our functioning everywhere, whether it be always using both sides of a paper in the office, or ensuring uniform risk management skills in our leaders and instructors, or scrupulously exercising camping ethics while hiking in the mountains. Every decision is thought out in terms of its possible impact on people and the environments.

Our motivation…

…is the famous ‘Butterfly Effect’. We don’t wonder if it is a myth or a fact. It is a nice concept to believe in. And we flap our wings and know that it is not only making us stronger but also that it will have its effects elsewhere. After all, the Buddhists in the Himalaya believe that when their prayer flags flutter in the wind, the essence of the prayers spreads in the atmosphere.
